Overall, becoming a student at Hinds Community College has been a great learning experience for me as I begin to understand the world around me.
I called the school to get more information about the Associate's degree program in Business they kept switching me to department to department and I still didn't get a chance to talk to someone about the program very unprofessional I will never call and I will never think about going to this school again.
For the past two summers I have taken sumer classes online through Hinds. I have never been through a process as frustrating when trying to get registered for classes. It seems as if every time you call, there is either no answer or you get put on hold for 20-30 minutes, AND then after you wait on hold, you are then transferred to someone else and have to WAIT AGAIN. I was told multiple times by the Distance Learning center that my admissions application had been voided while the Admissions department was telling me my application was fine and ready to go. It seemed as if these two could never get on the same page. This went on for several days. I attend college in Tennessee but LIVE in Mississippi, yet I went through tons of trouble trying to get them to not charge me for out of state tuition. I realize everyone may not have these same experiences, but mine was definitely not very good.
Facilities are mediocre but it is a decent JuCo experience
Teachers and staff are amazing! The kids are mostly "Good Southern kids"; especially if you stay around with the right sort of people. Courses aren't too difficult, and not too easy. I would recommend joining the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa if you can as it helps financially with scholarships and with real valuable life experiences. It also looks good on a resume when applying for a 4-year school or a job.
Very little support and very disrespectful. Most cannot be bothered to do their jobs. The only things that makes it bearable are the teachers. Be even some of them shouldn't be teaching. When you call and ask for any type of assistance from deans and advisers you'll get runaround. They literally send your calls from campus to campus and when you finally get someone to talk they don't know how to help (with school matters specifically). You realize this your 1st semester. This is why they have a low graduation rate.
